Tyler is obsessed with fishing, and so he was in heaven in Kalaupapa National Historical Park. Our little beach was protected by reef and teeming with brightly colored fish, along with vicious-looking moray eels. With my knees dug into sand, I could dunk my snorkel mask and see a dozen or so species intermingling in the clear water, like raccoon butterfly fish, unicorn fish and goat fish. Somehow, though, the fish Tyler caught were always different from those I was swimming with. I guess he was mostly catching the predator fish that lurked just a little farther out.
