Kuang Si Waterfall, near the town of Luang Prabang, is the perfect place to practice long-exposure photography. Waterfalls pour into one another. At the trailhead, you are at the bottom, and as you walk the boardwalks, you get closer to the top, the giant falls at the end, which drop two hundred feet over the course of many cascades.
To capture the motion of the waterfall with this ten-second shot, in the middle of the day even, without overexposing the picture, I used a neutral density filter.
After walking up to the bottom of this massive waterfall, and climbing up the steep trail to its origin, we came back down to the bottom to bathe in the deep pool underneath one of the lesser falls. The water was perfectly warm enough to stay in for a while and green enough to stimulate our senses. Tiny fish nibbled at our feet, cleaning us of dead skin.
