For a month and a half I worked on Juan Pablo's farm, La Hesperia, in Ecuador's cloud forest. Juan Pablo had taken over the farm from his grandfather, and had started to phase out the animals. He'd employed organic farming techniques, and had started to plant endangered palm trees throughout the old cow pastures. He still raised pigs and horses and goats, but only a few of each. Now his focus was more on organic vegetables and attracting volunteers from around the world to learn organic farming techniques.
