Mountain Bog Gentian
Mountain bog gentian are low to the ground flowers. Their stems are just a few inches tall, and each only carries one flower. Those flowers are dark to our eyes, but clearly, due to that deep blue color, they are brightly fluorescent to an insect's eyes. Because they're so low to the ground, it's easy to miss them, even when they are underfoot. And because they only bloom in alpine areas, you only have three or so months out of each year to catch them enjoying life, wide open straight up toward the sky, like this one.
